Thailand: Manufacturing picks up in December

In December, manufacturing production increased 1.3% over the same month of the previous year, which was up from the 0.3% increase observed in November and marked the best result in five months. The reading was mainly driven by increasing refinery output and in textiles manufacturing.

On a monthly basis, manufacturing output increased 2.6% in seasonally-adjusted terms, was up from the flat reading tallied in November and marked the best result in over a year. Moreover, annual average growth in industrial production increased from 0.2% in November to 0.4% in December.

Met the why particular Consensus Forecasts panelists expect manufacturing to contract 3.5% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel expects manufacturing to increase 3.0%.
