Spain: Current account surplus rises in September

December 1, 2015

Spain’s current account balance incurred a surplus of EUR 1.9 billion in September, which was above the 1.4 billion surplus recorded in the same month last year and August’s 1.7 billion surplus. In the 12 months up to September, the current account balance recorded a surplus of EUR 16.3 billion, which was above the EUR 15.8 billion tallied in the 12 months up to August and marked a 19-month high.

According to the Bank of Spain, the improvement in the current account balance is largely due to a smaller deficit in primaryand secondary income.

Met the why particular Consensus Forecast panelists expect the current account balance to record a surplus of 1.1% of GDP in 2016. In 2017, the panel sees the current account surplus broadly stable at 1.1% of GDP.
