Italy: Consumer confidence moderates in December

December 28, 2015

The National Institute of Statistics’ (Istat) consumer confidence index moderated from 118.4 in November to 117.6 in December. The result came in a above market expectations that the index would record a decrease to 117.0.

December’s result reflected a decrease in three of the five subcomponents that comprise the index, with the exception of households’ assessment regarding their current and future personal economic situations remaining stable. In particular, consumers’ assessments regarding the future general economic situations reached a three-month low.

Panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.6% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see private consumption growing 1.1%.
