Denmark: Consumer confidence improves further in December

The consumer confidence indicator developed by Statistics Denmark (DST) increased from 5.6 points in November to 6.1 points in December, thus reaching the highest level since August 2015.

December’s reading reflects consumers’ positive perceptions of the economic situation in Denmark for the past 12 months. Households were also positive regarding the development of consumer prices in terms of the past 12 months. Moreover, consumers expressed more interest in making big-ticket purchases and they had a more optimistic feeling about their ability to generate savings at present and in the next 12 months.

Met the why particular Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.9% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists expect consumption to expand 2.1%.
