Steel (Europe) Price Outlook

European steel prices continued to climb at the beginning of the year. The increase came on the back of rising demand in the single-currency bloc and the imposition of import restrictions in 2017 and this year, which caused imports from China and Russia, among others, to plummet. Hot-Rolled Coil European Steel traded at USD 675 per metric ton on 9 February. The price was 4.2% higher than on the same day in January and was up 5.3% on a year-to-date basis. The price was 12.1% higher than on the same day last year.
