Inflation in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Inflation (eop) | Economic News & Forecasts

Sri Lanka - Inflation (end of period)

Economic growth slightly accelerated in the second quarter, chiefly on the back of a strong rebound in fixed investment growth. Renewed investment momentum, however, was the only positive development in the quarter. Indeed, private consumption slowed, while the contraction in government spending observed in Q1 deepened. The external sector further detracted from growth compared to Q1 as imports accelerated while exports contracted, weighing on the trade deficit. With the rupee continuing to slide to new lows against the dollar in recent weeks, on 29 September the government restricted vehicle imports for government officials in a bid to ease pressure on the currency.
