Nicaragua - Inflation

Political instability continues, after dialogue between President Daniel Ortega, businesses and different sectors of civil society stalled in late May amid continuing violence and police repression. Talks could resume soon, although a firm date has yet to be set. Bank deposits have slipped in recent weeks, while the Central Bank governor warned of the serious economic impact the unrest will have on tourism, FDI and domestic activity. This comes after the economy appeared to lose momentum in Q1, with economic activity growth slowing substantially on a weak construction sector, and the trade deficit widening on lower manufacturing exports and a higher oil imports bill.
