Montenegro - GDP

The economy appears to be performing well in the first half of the year, although national accounts data is still outstanding for Q1. Merchandise exports expanded at a double-digit rate annually in the January-to-April period and has coincided with buoyant growth in industrial production in the same period. The solid growth momentum recorded so far this year has helped soften the impact of ongoing fiscal contractionary measures on the economy. The IMF reported in a recent visit to the country that the government has implemented most of the fiscal measures agreed in 2017, which is contributing to putting public accounts on a sound footing. The government is hoping to improve Montenegro’s fiscal health in the next few years, something that would be needed to finance infrastructure projects such as the Bar-Boljare highway.
