GDP in Mongolia
Mongolia - GDPEconomic growth further accelerated in the first quarter of 2019 from the solid performance registered at the end of last year. As in previous quarters, the print was driven first and foremost by the Oyu Tolgoi mine, which caused investment to skyrocket —after a soft patch in Q4—and led to a surge in the external sector. Meanwhile, domestic demand dynamics also gained momentum, as private consumption growth picked up steam and government spending rebounded from Q4’s contraction. Available monthly data suggests solid economic activity will likely persist in the second quarter, as industrial production growth remained robust in April while, in the same month, merchandise exports continued to expand robustly.
