Investment in Macedonia
Macedonia - InvestmentSolid momentum in the second quarter appears to have carried over into the third quarter. Consumer spending likely strengthened, underpinned by record-low unemployment and accelerating real wage growth in July and August, while tourist arrivals continued to increase at a double-digit pace in the same period. Moreover, a pick-up in exports in August should bode well for the external sector. Meanwhile, the government has pressed on with the process to change the official name of the country and, on 19 October, parliament approved the proposal to change the constitution by a two-thirds majority vote. The process is not yet complete, however, as making constitutional amendments requires multiple rounds of voting that could last several months.
