GDP in Laos
Laos - GDPThe economy likely continues to expand at a rapid pace so far this year. Higher prices for copper, one of the country’s key exports, are seen supporting the external sector, while the recent 20% minimum wage hike should be supporting private consumption. In addition, the expansion of the Nam Ngum hydroelectric project was completed in late May. This is one of a score of hydroelectric projects which will come onstream over the next few years, generating additional fiscal and export revenues and supporting the government’s aim of becoming a regional energy hub.
