Georgia - Inflation

The economy continued gaining momentum in recent months, with growth accelerating for the fourth consecutive month and surging 6.5% on an annual basis in April. The sturdy performance in the January–April period came on the back of a buoyant external sector and improving business conditions. Merchandise exports on an annual basis surged by double digits during the period, with services exports—particularly tourism—contributing notably to the expansion. Meanwhile, subdued inflationary pressures and a stable monetary environment likely spurred household consumption growth, reflected in a marked increase in VAT collection rates.
