GDP in Cyprus
Cyprus - GDPPreliminary data showed the Cypriot economy started the year on a strong note, maintaining pace from the solid performance recorded last year. GDP grew a robust 3.8% year-on-year in Q1 on the back of the hospitality and retail trade industries, just below the 3.9% figure recorded in Q4 2017, which had marked one of the fastest rates of growth in the past decade. A dynamic tourism sector, in which tourist arrivals surged by almost a third in Q1 year-on-year, likely fueled the buoyant growth in the hospitality sector, while low unemployment is expected to have shored up retail trade and consumer spending.
