Public Debt in Armenia

Armenia - Public Debt

Growth seems to have gained traction at the outset of the year, on the heels of a robust expansion in the final quarter of 2018 which was powered by the external sector. Economic activity accelerated in Q1 2019, propped up by solid expansions in the construction, retail trade and services sectors, which more than offset weak industrial output growth and sliding agricultural production. Merchandise exports, however, slumped in the quarter, reflecting an increasingly challenging external environment and softening demand from Russia. That said, strong domestic demand, amid lower inflation and sustained private credit growth, appears to have more than offset a deterioration in the external sector in Q1.
