GDP in Armenia
Armenia - GDPPreliminary data revealed that GDP growth moderated in the second quarter, but still came in at a solid 7.2% year-on-year (Q1: +9.6% yoy). Plunging government consumption amid fiscal tightening, along with weaker fixed investment and exports growth drove the slowdown. However, household spending picked up in the period bolstered by rising remittances from abroad. Available data for the third quarter is mixed. Economic activity accelerated in July on the back of faster industrial production growth, but export growth stuttered in the same month. On the political front, local elections in Yerevan on 23 September have come into the spotlight. The vote will be a first test of new Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s pledge of free and fair elections.
