International Reserves in Algeria

Algeria International Reserves | Economic News & Forecasts

Algeria - International Reserves

Growth in Q4 2018 likely remained modest due to weak output in the oil sector, while free-falling oil prices in the quarter further hampered exports and hit foreign reserves. In better news, activity in the non-oil economy was likely supported by strong showings in the agricultural and construction sectors, the latter being buttressed by a flurry of investment projects from state oil firm Sonatrach. Notably, Sonatrach recently signed a deal for a USD 1 billion gas plant, while Nissan announced plans for a USD 160 million factory. In the political arena, large scale protests erupted against President Bouteflika’s announced bid for a fifth term, fanning political instability ahead of April’s elections.
