Cotton Price Outlook

Cotton prices have moderated significantly in recent weeks. On 11 January, the spot price was USD 68.4 cents per pound, which was 9.1% lower than on the same day last month. The price was up 1.0% on a year-to-date basis, but was 11.3% lower than on the same day last year. Production expectations for 2018–2019 were downwardly revised by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on lower projected Asian output. However, subdued Chinese demand dragged on global demand, forcing prices down.
